The year 2020 shaped and reformed so many lives.  Ours was no exception.

 

Working for an engineering company in the petrochemical and industrial arena, when the quarantine was mandated in early 2020 I was sent to work from home until further notice.  Then the layoffs started and the future was all but certain.  Luckily, I was never let go and am still working from home for that same employer.  I was, however, very bored with all this extra time I had on my hands.  That's when I had the idea to turn my hobby into a legitimate business.  Hello legitimate business.

 

Woodworking started for me one fateful year when my wife bought me a jig saw for Christmas.  I had no idea what to do with it.  I bought some plywood and started cutting.  Within a few hours I had made a very crudely shaped chair for my then two year old daughter.  I was hooked.  Fast forward many years and dollars spent and here we are.  Building high end custom furniture, creating decent content on Youtube helping others learn the craft and business side of woodworking, and scaling ever upwards.

Burnstock is owned and operated by first generation craftsman Marcus DePhillips.  I've over a decade and a half now of experience and consider myself a flea among giants in the craft.  With much to learn, I also have much to give.  It is my hope that I can create furniture that brings joy to whomever buys it, create content that both teaches and entertains, and leave a legacy that impacts for generations to come.

With every cut, every setting joint, every wipe of finish I'm reminded that I'm not just building furniture.  I'm creating a heritage.
